For Mountain Standard Plumbing, being a local business means being part of the community outside of the workday, too. That is why our team was excited to spend a Saturday at Touch-a-Truck, meeting local families, letting kids explore one of our plumbing vans, and joining other organizations that help keep our communities running.
Mountain Standard Plumbing participated in the annual Touch-a-Truck event hosted by Trails Park and Recreation District (TPRD), which serves Centennial and Arapahoe County. Held Saturday, October 10, at Spring Creek Park in Aurora, the free, family-friendly event brought together local families, first responders, schools, businesses, and community organizations for a morning of hands-on fun.
A Chance for Kids to Explore the Trucks They See Around Town
For kids, Touch-a-Truck offers a chance to do something they do not get to do every day: climb inside the vehicles they see working in their neighborhoods.
Throughout the event, children explored fire trucks, police vehicles, construction equipment, and other specialty vehicles. Kids could get an up-close look at a medical helicopter, tour an ambulance, and check out a trash truck.
Mountain Standard Plumbing brought one of our plumbing service vans to join the lineup. Kids were invited to climb into the back to see where our plumbers keep their tools and equipment, then hop into the cab and try out what may have been the most exciting feature of all: the horn.
It was a fun way to introduce kids to one of the skilled trades they see at work throughout their community. The same vans they might spot driving through Centennial, Parker, Littleton, or Greenwood Village every week suddenly became something they could climb inside and explore for themselves.
Balloons, Candy, and Plenty of Fun
Of course, we could not show up with just the plumbing van.
At the Mountain Standard Plumbing tent, families stopped by for candy, conversation, and free custom balloon creations from Mr. Paul, whom many South Denver families may recognize from Timbuk Toys.
Mr. Paul stayed busy creating balloons for the kids, with requests ranging from an alien and a T-rex to a baby. Watching kids decide what they wanted and then seeing those creations come to life was one of our favorite parts of the day.
The booth also gave our team a chance to meet families outside of the usual service call. Instead of talking about a leaking pipe or a water heater that needs attention, we got to talk with neighbors, meet their kids, and simply enjoy being part of a community event.
Bringing Together the People Who Serve Our Community
Touch-a-Truck is about much more than big vehicles. It gives families an opportunity to meet some of the people who work, serve, and do business in their communities.
This year’s participants included the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, South Metro Fire Rescue, Cherry Creek School District, and other local organizations. Food trucks and vendors, including Kona Ice, were also on hand.
For Mountain Standard Plumbing, being there alongside these organizations was especially meaningful. We are a local, family-owned company, and the neighborhoods where we work are also the communities we care about.
Community involvement gives us an opportunity to connect with families before they ever need to call a plumber. It allows us to show up as neighbors, parents, business owners, and members of the community, not simply as the people you call when something goes wrong.
Thank You, Centennial and Arapahoe County
Thank you to Trails Park and Recreation District for bringing local families and organizations together for another Touch-a-Truck event. We also want to thank everyone who stopped by the Mountain Standard Plumbing booth to say hello.
Whether your child explored the back of our van, climbed into the cab, honked the horn, grabbed some candy, or left carrying a one-of-a-kind balloon creation, we loved getting the chance to meet you.
A special thank-you also goes to Mr. Paul for spending the day with us and creating so many memorable balloons for the kids.
We are grateful to be part of a community that supports local events like this, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next one.
